Leroy Gaines

October 24, 1935 ~ September 7, 2021 (age 85)

My life story

His life was well lived, and he was well loved! He was called home in a peaceful manner in his Abilene house surrounded by love, on September 7, 2021 in his 85th year.

Graveside Service will be Saturday, September18, 2021 at 10:00am at Elmwood Memorial Park in the Garden of Gethsemane.

We know these are trying times and the community is still experiencing high risk of the COVID. The family is asking that you wear your mask at the graveside. Thank you for respecting the family wishes.

This gentle, loving, and caring man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his wife of 63 years Lois Gaines and his children Michael Gaines, Anthony (Tony) Gaines, Carol Carter, and Kim Gbadebo (Matthew Gbadebo).

Family was the pivotal essence of Leroy's life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to our large family. He has been a major presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is a proud grandfather to Alicia Blanco, Christye Golden (Chance), Jason Brathwaite, Kayndise Lee (Sequane), Madison Gaines, Erick Carter, Joshua Gaines, Stephanie Tisby (Jonathan), Kelynne Gaines, and Belinda Gaines.

He also cherished his role of great-grandfather to Tianna Williams, Zion Golden, Maxwell Brathwaite, Jayce Pride, Peyton Pride, Jordyn Tisby, Alonna Gaines, and Noah Gaines.

Born in Greenville, SC on 10/24/1935, Leroy spent his life as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful and loving man. Leroy was gainfully employed with the United States Air Force for 21 years and retired as an E6 Tech Sergeant. He then began to work for Dyess Credit Union for 17 years and ended his employment as a transporter for MAPS for 6 years.

Leroy was a man who loved fishing, bowling, jazz music, his family and extended family, but most importantly his Dallas Cowboys.

He had a long-standing relationship with Jehovah and was very blessed with his faith to his dying breath.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter Gaines Sr. and Tessie Gaines, brothers: Joseph Frank Gaines and Walter Gaines Jr., sister: Louise Gaines and Mary Frances Gaines, and daughter: Gail Parker.

Leroy will be forever remembered for his beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is watching over us
