Carl was born September 16, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas, to Lee and Wilma Mears. He was a true entrepreneur owning Cody's Western Store in the 80s and several restaurants. Carl fed and nourished the Wylie Bulldogs for many years with the nearby Rib & Ribeye restaurant. In his later years, he was proud to become an independent insurance adjuster, which became a career he shared with his two sons. In honor of his many years on the West Texas Fair and Rodeo Committee, Carl was inducted into the West Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2009. He sat on the board of the Western Heritage Classic and could often be found cooking for the event. Above all, Carl loved his family and enjoyed every minute with them, especially his grandchildren. His legacy of love and hard work will be carried on for generations to come.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joy Mears; his parents; his three brothers, Bill Mears, Dubb Mears, and Jerry Mears.
Carl is survived by his children, Tonya Doby and husband Chuck, Blake Mears and wife Adrienne, and Paul Mears and wife Becky; his stepdaughter, Tami Bolyard and husband Doug; five grandchildren, Zach Lewis, Ava Mears, Ella Mears, Carter Mears, and Colton Mears; one sister, Emma Jean Harrison; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
