John Louis Watkins Pike
July 19, 1931  -  July 4, 2009

John Louis Watkins Pike of Uvalde passed away on July 4, 2009 at his residence at the age of  77.  He was born in Rio Frio, TX on July 19, 1931 to James Ira and Ora Minter Pike, Sr.  He was the youngest of four children.  He married Dorothy Lou Robinson on July 11, 1953 in Uvalde.  The same year he went to work for Asbestos Workers Local 87 in San Antonio, TX.  He retired due to bad health in 1984.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years; four children, Ina L. Heinen and husband, Jessie of Uvalde; Robert L. Pike and wife, Maggie of Pipe Creek; Steve M. Pike and wife, Debbie of Uvalde; and Randy R. Pike of Adkins; brother, James Ira Pike, Jr. and wife, Henrietta "Peaches" of Uvalde; brother-in-law, J.S. Boren of San Angelo; six grandchildren, Amanda Pike of Uvalde; Logan Pike of Pipe Creek; Nolan Pike of Huntsville; Chris Pike and wife, Leslie of Moore; Stephanie Pike of Uvalde; and Lance Pike of San Antonio; three step-grandchildren, J.W. Heinen and wife, Chrissie of San Antonio; Marvel Stone and husband, Marion of New Port Richey, FL; Soozee Gonzales and husband, Julio of Bloomington, MN; 13 great-grandchildren with another one on the way; three nephews, Roger Boren, Mike Boren, and Douglas Harvey; and three nieces, Bonnie Mello, Marla Zurek, and Lynda Kay Stundal.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Boren of San Angelo and Ramona Harvey of Eagle Pass; and two nephews, David Wayne Harvey of Eagle Pass and Sammy Pike of Uvalde.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel with burial to follow in the Rio Frio Cemetery.  Mr. Pike's cousin, Robert Rowland, will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Chris Pike, Logan Pike, Nolan Pike, Lance Pike, Amanda Pike, and J.W. Heinen.  Honorary pallbearers will be Stephanie Pike, Marvel Stone, and Soozee Gonzales.  The family suggests memorials to Uvalde Memorial Hospital - Home Health and Hospice, 1038-A Garner Field Rd., Uvalde, TX 78801.
